Toyota: steering wheel lock, steering wheel lock, tryed

Question
I am about to purchase a corolla 02, however after the test drive I took the key out of the ignition and tryed to lock the steering wheel, it didn't click and lock I turned the steering wheel about 90o, car sales man says it is locking and i didn't turn it enough, I wonder has it been fixed, and if it was broken had it been in an accident or stolen before. If it has been fixed could it lock up when I am driving.

Answer
Well, if the key is in the "on" position, you should be fine.  The steering lock can turn "latch" if your key is in that position so unless they happened to fix this thing with some CRAZY or dumb fix, you shouldn't have the steering wheel lock up during something like getting on an off ramp from the highway.

If you turned the wheel 90 degrees with no lock..  that's pretty iffy.  If anything, go back and turn it some more.. See if it actually does lock.  The dealer could be right though, seeing as I believe that my car is about 90 or a smidge more degrees before steering lockup.

Hope this helps,
