I have a 01 Corolla and I have maintained it at toyota from day one, changing the oil every 3000 to 5000 miles. For the last six months I have been communting to a new job (up to 80 miles a day)and have noticed that oil runs low. Toyota told me to come back after 500 miles and they did a oil consumption test and said it was fine. But should I be filling up the oil between oil changes? Thanks!

Hello,

yes check your oil level regularly, and if it goes down, refill it. It's important to stay near the maximum, to be sure your engine has no problems while is running.

Answer
Hello,

it's normal that an engine uses some oil.. but it depends how much.. if every 500 miles you have to add a can of oil.. this is not normal. Probably you have an internal engine problem, or simply an oil leak.
Check around your engine for oil leaks, otherwise your engine must be checked.
Look at the color of your exhaust emissions, if it's white even when you accellerate, it means that your engine burns oil with fuel, and this is not good.

Hope this helps!
