Volkswagen: 1968 vw bug, multiple wires, light switches

Hi I have a early 1968 bug with a wiring problem. It has 2 light switches on master cyl. the one closest to front of car 2 prong inner one 3 prong. there are 3 wires comming down to them. red. black.and red w black stripe.multiple wires hook to these but at one time something got hot.Im not sure how many,witch ones to connect to or witch terminals they go to on switchs. the 3 main wires are good. the ones leading off burnt bad. any advise would be very helpfull.
