Volkswagen: 1977 Super Beetle Convertible Igntion Switch Rplacement, little pilot, no screws

Question
Hi, Ron-
The housing around the steering column that holds the ignition lock and switch has no screws to remove the ignition assembly. I accidentally grounded the auto choke wire which melted the ignition switch, so I can barely turn the key and can't remove it. How can I get it out to replace the switch? Thanks for your help!

Answer
Hi Bob,

You are going to have to pick up a Bentley manual to do this operation.  Some Beetles have a hole in the housing which allows you to pop the clip which releases the switch. On others, you may need to drill a little pilot hole to pop it out.

Also, make sure that the key is in the ignition to do this.
