Volkswagen: Ball Joint removal and install

Hey Ron, just found your site here and thought you could add some insight.  I am restoring a 69 Bug for my wife and need to rebuild the front end.  The ball joints are giving me a headache.  Any hints or secrets you can give?

Hi John,

Auto parts houses have a two pronged fork-like tool that will fit between the spindle and the ball joint. You just strike it on the end to force the two apart. The tool probably cost between $10-20, but if you check around at various auto parts houses, some will rent this tool to you or let you use it for free.
