Volkswagen: gas in oil, oil light, throttle cable

Question
I just bought a 1970 Bug. It was all rebuilt by the previous owner but he had bought it for his GF and she did not like it so it has been sitting in his garage for about 3 years. We replaced the throttle cable, which had broke and fixed a leaky carburetor, charged the battery and it started right up. Drove it home then took it for a short spin and the oil light came on. Took it home and checked the oil and there is gas in the oil. Can you suggest where to start looking?

Answer
Hi Blythe:

Diaphragm in your fuel pump is perforated, or fuel pressure is too high. These are the two most common causes of gas in the oil.

You'll want to get it fixed ASAP and then change the oil immediately after. Gas in the oil = very rapid engine wear if you drive it like this.

I would try replacing the fuel pump.

Let me know how you make out.

Thanks,

Ron
