Volkswagen: now spark in my t2 camper, vw camper, electrical problem

hello, ihave recently bought a vw camper t2 1973 as a project. the van hasnt been started in 1-2 years the bloke i bought it from said there is an electrical problem, ive looked over the engine and no spark is being produced could you possibly tell me what i should be checking out because i havent got much experience with working on engines thanks, tom

Hi Tom,

Items to check:

1) You are getting 12 volts to the ignition coil + when the ignition switch is in the 'on' position.

2) The - terminal of the ignition coil should have a green wire going to your condenser.

3) Replace the points and condenser on the distributor.  

4) Replace cap and rotor
