Volkswagen: Timing 99 jetta 2.0, jetta 2, sprocket

Question
i am needing to know how to set the timing on a 99 jetta 2.0L engine. I know to line up the marks on the cam and the crank but what i am afraid of is having my crank out 1 full turn since the crank spin twice for every 1 cam revolution. is this a potential problem or does the computer compensate for the difference.

Answer
Robert,
The crank, cam and intermediate sprocket relationship must be perfect, the computer will not compensate, otherwise engine damage can occur (piston to valve crash).  It is a bit too involved to explain here.  I suggest getting the Bentley manual, which also will give good pictures of the markings and their relationships.
