Volkswagen: check engine light, mk4 jetta, ecu computer

I have a used Mk4 jetta, leaking oil above normal and the
check engine light recently came on, still drives/shift
smoothly.. Pls what should I do?

 Get the ECU (computer) scanned for the check engine light error code.  You can then look it up yourself at www.obd-codes.com if you wish.
 Obviously, you should track down the oil loss.  However, you should determine whether it is leaking or burning.  Big difference in the fix for each senario.
