Volkswagen: 73 vw, vacuum advance, empi

My 1973 vw starts and runs good, but when it warms up, it doesn't want to idle. I have to keep putting on the gas when I stop at a signal light. I put a new Empi carb, points plugs and wires. HELP

Hi Ben,

If this comes with a thermostatically heated choke, check and make sure that it is not adjusted improperly.  This can cause a rich condition at idle once heated and choke out the motor.

Next, check the timing.  Make sure that the timing is adjusted in sync with the Empi carbs specifications.

Finally, if you are running a non-vacuum advance distributor, make sure the ports are blocked on the carb.

This should fix your problem
