Volkswagen: Volkswagen Hazard/indicator lights, needle nose pliers, volkswagen passat

Question
I have a 2001 1.8T Volkswagen Passat that all hazard/indicator lights  are always on even the indicator lights in the dashboard when the engine is off and keys are out of thee ignition switch.

Answer
The hazards will normally work without the key in the ignition, so no worries there.  Now the question is why are they staying on?  Does the switch feel normal when you press and release it?  The relay itself for both the hazards and turn signals is in the hazard switch itself.  It's easy to remove and replace.  Pry the lens off with a screwdriver, grab the rim of the switch with needle nose pliers and pull.  The switch and the harness will come out of the dash.  Unplug the switch and see if your hazards go off.

UPDATE:  Sorry it didn't work for you.  I don't remember giving a guarantee.  Did you test the switch with a meter when you took it out.
