Volkswagen: Broken dipstick on 2002 Passat., oil light, dipstick

Question
Since the VW expert in the "repairs" section is on vacation, I'm asking this question here.  Tonight, I checked the oil on my 2002 Passat 1.8T.  When I put the dipstick back into the tube, part of the plastic orange seal broke off and fell into the tube.  It's a small piece, maybe less than a centimeter in any dimension.  Now I'm thinking that this little piece of plastic won't melt in the oil pan (it's exposed to hot oil all the time anyway), but might instead block a narrow oil path and deprive some essential part of oil.  Should I worry?

Answer
Orlando,

Don't worry about it.   Bring your car to an oil change facility that does oil system 'flushes' and have the procedure done along with a new oil filter.

My advice: After you have this procedure, keep an eye on your temperature and oil light for a couple of hundred miles, and don't sweat it.

Also, make sure you replace that dipstick!

Take care,

Ron
