Volkswagen: Clutch Question, clutch pedal, gti vr6

I have a 98 GTI VR6. I have had no problems with the clutch until today. As I pulled in, I tried to put it into gear, and it would not engage no matter what gear I put it in. What could be the problem?

Tommy, do me this favor.  Turn the car off.  Put the emergency brake on and depress the clutch pedal.  See if you can shift into all the gears.  If so,... sounds to me like the clutch is worn out or a part of it has failed.  let me know what you find.
