Volkswagen: 1997 VW Golf GL Safety Start Switch, clutch pedal, golf gl

QUESTION: When the clutch is depressed to the floor, car won't start. I see electrical to the fuel gage but the start safety switch is probably bad.  Do you know where this switch is located and how much a new one costs?

ANSWER: clutch safety switch is located under dash and the clutch pedal depresses it... two wire.  I hope this is your problem, it could be one of many.

make contact.

the "pedal" itself doesn't make the contact... the pedal arm does... follow from the bottom of the pedal up under the dash.  you should see the two wire switch.  The switch just sits into a bracket and twists.  Hopefully you will find this useful.
