Volkswagen: a/c 1998 Volkswagen Jetta GLX 2.8L VR6, volkswagen jetta, plastic cap

Question
I want to recharge the a/c on my girlfriend's jetta.  It's usually a straightforward setup, but I've found VW's to be a bit off the norm sometimes.  Do i need to know anything special? is it definitely R134a?  I'd prefer to come out the champ in the end and would prefer to avoid any bonehead mistakes.  Thanks!!

Answer
hello justin.  In 1998 the vw's were r134.  The first question is do you want to fix the problem, or just "get me though".  How do you know that there is no freon in the system?  Was a part changed? (I ask because then there will need to be more oil added so that the system does not fail.)
But for now I will tell you this for instructions until I hear back from you.  A great way to recharge her car is to know what "port" you will charge through.  In this case it will be through the "low" side of the system.  R134 made this easy to identify because once you find the two ports, one port is larger than the other and should be covered by a plastic cap.  The caps are necessary so If you don't have them, pick them up when you buy yor refill kit.  The small port is the low side and you will be charging through it.  (oil and refrigerant)  let me know what you find out and more info and I will walk you through the install.
thanks,
