Volkswagen: 80K mile service, timing belt tensioner, volkswagen golf

Question
Hi Ron,
My 2001 2.0L Volkswagen Golf is due for a 80,000 mile service. The shop
where I normall go is quoting me $400 for the service, and another $750 to
replace the timing belt, this includes the water pump, tensioner, camshaft
and seals.

Do these quotes sound reasonable or should I keep searching around?

Thanks!!

Answer
Hi Kristine,

The $500 is reasonable to replace the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump, it should be done at that milelage.

Second, I have no idea why you would need a new camshaft, as that is not a service item.

My suggestion: Keep shopping.

Best of Luck,

Ron
