Volkswagen: front two cylinders keep fouling plugs, output shaft, vw service

Question
I have an airboat with a super beetle motor in it and I keep having a problem with the front two (two closest to the output shaft) cylinders they keep on fouling plugs and therefore giving me no power ,Should I have the motor rebuilt or may it be something simple?

Answer
Hi Jeff,

Try doing a compression test on each of the cylinders.  There should be no more than a 25psi difference between all 4.

After that, adjust all the valves (make sure engine is cool) to .006.  If you are unclear how to do this, any VW service manual will show you the procedure in detail.

If this does not correct the problem, or your compression is poor,  it is probably time for a rebuild.
