Volkswagen: 1997 Passat Radio Loses Power, radio shack, loose connection

Question
The radio on my 1997 Passat has recently started to lose power, especially when the car is braking.  If you slam the front of the radio like Arthur Fonzarelli, it comes back on, but might go back off next time you stop.  This is annoying.  Suspecting a loose connection, I pulled the radio and wiggled all of the connections.  While this did not fix the problem, I did notice some minor staining/corrosion at the site of the lower plug.  Should I pull the radio again and lightly sand all of the pins?  Any other thoughts on what could be causing this or what a fix might be?

Also, has anyone had any luck connecting an iPod to one of these radios?

Answer
I agree, it sounds like a poor connection.   Instead of sanding the contacts, go to a Radio Shack type store and buy a can of contact cleaner and spray that on all the contacts.

This is much better than sanding.

Let me know how you make out.

Thanks,

Ron
