Volkswagen: VW Transporter Flashing Oil Light, faulty sensor, vw dealer

Hi Ron,

Glad I found this site. I have VERY recently bought a 1997 VW Transporter 1.9 SWB. It has done only 58k. Question is..The oil warning light flashes after start up, an even on-off-on-off all the time. Oil level is fine..Any help on this please ?

Hi Dennis, the first thing I would recommend to do is not to run it until you track down the cause.

I am guessing that it is only a faulty sensor, available from any VW dealer.

However, you want to make sure that there is not an internal problem with oil pressure, which could ultimately ruin your whole engine.

So, I'd check the wire to the sensor on the engine, and if that seems ok, replace the sensor itself.  (I believe they are under 40 dollars.)
