Volkswagen: Accelerator Cable ?, accelerator cable, little hole

Question
Hello, I have a 1979VW SB convert. The accelerator cable tube flops around and sticks out 2 inches past the fan housing. It appears to be spring loaded as when I press it flush to the housing it pushes back. What holds the tube in place and what springs return the accel. cable to idle? Thanks

Answer
Hi,
The tube just rests in there, and sits in a hole in the tin on the back (where the motor joins the tranny) of the engine.

It is not spring loaded, the cable is probably pulling it out.  Try making sure that it is going through the correct little hole in the back of the engine and that the cable is properly lubricated.
