Volkswagen: VW Polo 1.4 (2000 on a V reg), vw polo, polo 1

Question
The Driver's side electric window won't operatate, does the switch go through a relay?  I know the motor is fine as I have tested it on the passenger side and the fuse is OK to.  If it isn't a relay then I can only think that the switch is dodgy?

Hi Scott,

Make sure you are getting voltage to the motor.  (put a meter on the leads that go to it, turn on the key and push the switch.

The meter should swing to 12 Volts.

If not, check at the switch itself.  If there are 12 Volts to the switch, you are correct, and the switch needs to be replaced.

However, if there is no voltage to the switch, keep back tracking with the meter until you find the fault.  I am almost positive that there is not a relay on the Polo.
