Volkswagen: 98 jetta glx brake pad replacement, pad replacement, rubber mallet

Question
hey there
im changing my pads and rotors on my jetta and im having trouble taking the caliper off on the rear driver side. it seems to be locked in place. i took off the ebrake but it still seems to be "stuck". a friend of mine said it could be a the piston is still compressed. could you help me out?
thank you!

Answer
Hi Prey,

1) Loosen the e-brake cable, it still could be too tight.

2) Make sure you put take the top from the brake reservior off.

3) Get a thin wedge of wood and gently tap between pad and rotor, gently.  (do this on both sides)

4) Place 2X4 piece near caliper and gently bang it off with the rubber mallet.  You should have no problem.

Good Luck and let me know if I can help any further.
