Volkswagen: Trans Fluid Fill location, vw jetta, radiator leak

Question
While looking for a radiator leak on my 1996 VW Jetta GLS 2L, I accidentally pulled a hose that drained out some tranny fluid. I reinstalled the hose with a new clamp. Now I need to fill the system. This transmission does not have a dip stick.

1) Do I use G053 154 A2 fluid?
2) Where is the fill location?
3) How do I open the fill port?
4) How do I know when I have enough?

Help ! I need my car back on the road!

Thanks for any advise you have.
Jeanette.

Answer
Hi Jeanette,  sorry for the delay!

I am ASSUMING you have a manual transmission:

You need a 17mm allen wrench or socket to the remove the plug on the left drivers side of the tranny.

(Not the bottom drain plug but the one that is halfway up the side of the tranny.)

Pull the plug and stick your finger in side. If your doesn't come out soaked with oil, then you need to add fluid.

I don't want to give you wrong advice on the trans fluid, as I do not know what you already have in there.  You don't want to mix fluids.

If you are reasonably sure that it is the original fluid, the owners manual will have the exact type of gear oil.

Let me know how you make out!
