Volkswagen: Power Locks on a 96 VW Golf, power locks, vw golf

The power locks on my 96 VW GOLF are unresponsive.  What can I do to fix this problem?

First thing is first, the locks on these cars are worked by air, most of them anyway, they changer in 96 so i need to know if they are motors or worked by air, second thing is i need more info, eg. like is there a remote for the locking, does it work from inside or from the key in the door, does it make any noises ect
