Volvo: 98 volvo s70 P0108, intake leaks, vacuum lines

Question
QUESTION: My volvo begin to stall and would turn off. I got the car scanned and got the codes P0108 & p0172. So i replaced all the hoses on it and i still do the same thing. I think it might be the maf sensor but want to know if i could test it before spending any more money.

ANSWER: Mario,
The only good, but not perfect test is to use a scan tool and take readings of the MAF. The code 108 I can not identify, 172 is a fuel trim code that could be a MAF, but also things like broken vacuum lines, intake leaks. Also better if you use a Volvo scan tool as the codes you get will be the manufactures codes and more specific.

QUESTION: I put a used TPS on car and it ran great for a day but it started doing the same thing now. I did another OBII scan on it and one code that stuck out was P0243. Where can i get Volvo scan tool for a reasonable price.

Answer
Mario,
There is not an inexpensive scan tool. The one that works on your car is the less costly one. When I bought the one I have it was about $5000.00. New cars use the VIDA/DICE system at costs of about $7000.00 plus the subscription. For a years subscription it's about $7500.00. If you can find used one they maybe less, but Volvo does not offer support on the older system. As far as code 243 I have no information. I have seen the Volvo VST listed on e-bay. Ohio diagnositic also sells the identical scanner.
