Volvo: 2000 Volvo V40, neutral safety switch, 2000 volvo v40

Question
The motor will not turn over.  Battery is fully charged.  I can jump the solenoid & the starter will engage & turn the motor.  When using the key all dash lights come on as usual but will not crank the engine.  The key works properly.  I have switched the relay.  This came on without any warning.  There is 12v to the starter switch in the steering column.  Should I replace the switch module?  Thank you.
Regards,  Richard

Answer
Richard,
First try locking and unlocking the door to turn off the alarm. Also try another key in case the chip in it is bad. Read codes for the alarm. You may have a bad antenna ring that read the key chip. Also read codes for the trans to see if there are any for the gear position sensor. It acts as the neutral safety switch.
