Volvo: 00 Volvo V70 Fault Codes, volvo v70, variable valve timing

Question
Hi,

So I brought my car in for a new sticker and it said fault codes P1672 and P1671 came up.  I found what they stand for on line but how do you clear them?  Please let me know whatever info you have concerning either of these codes.

Thanks,
Jillian

Answer
Jillian,
Those codes stand for the VVT (variable valve timing). Sometimes that codes is set because the timing belt was done and as it was done the camshaft was not set in it's proper position. Also if the VVT solenoid fails or a wire becomes loose or broken. I have even seen some where the oil  has not been properly changed at the correct intervals and the block and head oil passages are clogged, that will slow or stop the oil flow to the camshaft VVT. So first you must find the reason it sets a code for the VVT fix that clear the light with a scan tool drive the car for two drive cycles that are without fault then go to emissions. Sorry no short sweet and easy answer. Simply clearing the light in most states will not allow the car to pass emissions. I would say that you can try to have the light reset, then drive it to see if any codes return. If you then can drive two drive cycles without fault it should then pass.
