Volvo: Volvo 245 wgn non- turbo 2.3 auto, coolant temperature switch, volvo 245

Question
My 245 wagon stalls out until it reaches operating temperature and then runs perfectly. I have been told the coolant temperature switch needs to be replaced. I located  the switch but I would like to know if I need any special tools to remove it. The sensor is in a rather tight, hard-to-reach spot so any tips would be greatly appreciated. My wagon has approximately 240,000 gentle. miles and I plan to run it for a long time.

Answer
John,
There is a special tool that is used at times to replace the sensor. I have used a spark plug socket with the rubber insert removed. It is not a direct fit but works most times. To give you more room remove the air inlet tube and throttle housing.
