Volvo: 1988 volvo 740SLE, fuel pump relay, master ray

Hello Master Ray, my Volvo is acting very odd. Engine cuts out-tach drops abruptly. Sometimes the engine spontaneously restarts if car is moving. This began about two years ago, have replaced the fuel pump relay, cleaned electrical connections, and replaced alternator brushes.

Could be the electric power stage, coil, radio suppression relay (for the injectors), poor ground at intake manifold. When it stops can you identify what is missing ignition or fuel? Read the codes in the system to see if there is a code for flywheel pick up. Look at the pick up to see if the wire cover is frayed. Replace it if it is frayed.
