Volvo: Engine Wont Hold Start, volvo 850 glt, mass air flow sensor

Question
We recently purchased a 1997 Volvo 850 GLT and think we bought a lemon. The local dealer has indicated to me that the problem is a Mass Air Flow Sensor. The car has started up three seperate times after he has indicated that the mass air flow sensor was replaced but when you turn the car off and go to restart, the vehicle will not hold the start unless you have your foot on the gas and keeping the engine reving. We have not been able to actually use the vehicle because it keeps having the same problem and we have returned it to the dealer three times with him indicating the same problem. At this time we'd prefer our money back but he is not seeming to want to go this route - suggestions?

Answer
Karen,
Since it is a '97 you should be able to have the fault codes read. Most times they are able to lead you in the right direction. You will need to look for a shop that works on Volvo's as they know the little problems that are part of the Volvo, and have the special tools to read the faults and do the repairs.
