Volvo: 1983 Volvo Coup, Intercooler Turbo, California model., mechanic work, chief mechanic

Question
Hi,

My 1983 242 Inter-cooler Turbo set for 6 years now and I would like to start it up.  I had 7 Volvo's and had done engine rebuild on my 1961, never had any dealer or mechanic work on any of my cars, but did have some advise at times from the chief mechanic where I bought my cars at. He is now gone. I am aware of the corrosion problem in the fuel system and I don't want to plug it up or mess it up by bad start-up attempts.  Please advise.  If you need more info on the car I have, please ask.

Thank you,

Paul

Answer
Paul,
Put new fuel in and blow out the lines of the old fuel. However it may be too late because of the corrosion problems. Then all you can do is try to start it. You may pull out the plugs and squirt some oil in there to help build up the compression.
