Volvo: 87 240 dl clutch adjustment, volvo experience, clutch adjustment

Question
QUESTION: can you give me info on adjusting clutch if its possible
thanks kevin

ANSWER: Kevin,
When you push by hand on the clutch fork there is play, adjust that out at the cable. Some you can use a 22mm wrench or pliers to turn the adjuster. Take out all but just a very little of the play.

QUESTION: Thanks so much for the help. I turned the adjuster enough for it to have very little play like you said, the car still wouldn't go into gear. I tried turning it both ways trying to get the car into gear, should i plan on replacing the clutch now? How difficult is it to replace, should I have a shop do it or could I spend a saturday doing it. Thanks for all your help.

Answer
Kevin,
Yes looks like the clutch is worn out. Have someone with Volvo experience check it out to be sure that you did not over look something. Good size job the trans is removed and the clutch plate and disc and bearing come out. Replace the pilot bearing also. You may need the flywheel resurfaced. Don't forget to install a new rear main engine seal as long as you have the trans out. A good shop will be able to do the job one day. A lot of work to do on the ground without a lift and trans jack.
