Volvo: 1995 850 turbo stalling, fuel pressure gauge, volvo 850 turbo wagon

Question
I own a 1195 volvo 850 turbo wagon. periodically, the car will stall out. by
stalling out, i mean that the car shuts down, the various dash lights come on,
and the power steering goes. the radio still works, as do the lights usually,
the car starts right back up again, but occasionally it is stubborn and refuses
to get going. Ive scoured these forums for advice and ideas, but im hesitant
to throw away tons of money without knowing, or at least having some idea
of, what the problem is. most signs lead to the "fuel pump relay", but im not
sure on this. i appreciate your help on this.

Answer
Ches,
Very hard to say what is happening. What I would do is put a fuel pressure gauge on the car and drive it, when the stalling occurs see if it is due to the fuel pressure dropping. If that is the case, then you will know that the problem lies in the fuel system. Still you do not know if the pump is failing or the relay. Then you need to take a guess, or have a test light on the fuel pump to see if it stopped because of no power. Also read the fault codes and see if there are any codes that may lead to the stalling. Like a faulty cam sensor or crank sensor, MAF etc.
