Volvo: Volvo 1999 V70 7 seater wagon, model volvo, etm

I am considering buying this model from a dealer in Australia: 1999 V70 2.5 20V/2.4 LTR/ 4 SP AUTOMATIC/7 seater.My local mechanic said watch out for the ETM and gearbox in the V70's prior to 200. They can be expensive to replace and can often fail. What is your view and experience with this model Volvo?

Here in the U.S. we also have many problems with the transmissions, and the ETM. That looks like a chance you have to take. There is not any way to know what or when the faults may occur.
The cost of a replacement trans is high, but is the deal you have a good one? The ETM could maybe only need a reprogramming and not a replacement. Personally I would stay away from the car.
