Volvo: 1996 850 Wagon Platinum Edition - dash lights, side vent, crash pad

Question
Hello Ray, I have several dash lights out (as well as most of the lights on my 816 radio - though I know what to do with that one) that include all AC/Heating controls, most of the small toggle switches to the right and left of the steering wheel (sunroof, door lock, fog lights, etc.). Can you advise on the best way to replace the bulbs without having to pay my local dealership? Thank you in advance. Harvey in North Carolina.

Answer
Harvey,
Pull off the crash pad and remove the cluster, replace the bulbs. Pull out the switches, A/C control head, the bulbs are removeable. The crash pad has screws in the side vent and front vents, pop out the vents to see the screws. There are tow screws at the top of the cluster as you look at it. Remove the glove box, there are four bolts that hold the air bag, remove them uplug the bag, do not turn on the key with the air bag disconnected it will set a code and require a scan tool to read the codes and reset the light. If your A/C unit is the manual climate unit pull off the knobs and remove the screws, the front will come off.
