Volvo: volvo s40 flame trap housing repair, flame trap, volvo repair

Question
Is it common for a flame trap to break?  I have a volvo S40 with 49,000 miles on it and recently brought my car in for service because I was experiencing a strange noise while driving and was told that my flame trap housing needed to be repaired.  Is the flame trap typically checked with routine maintenance checks?  I appreciate your assistance with this matter.

Answer
Catherine,
No it is not considered common for the flame trap housing to break. And it should be part of normal service to inspect it for leakage and condition. If it is in fact broken, get it repaired and start using a better Volvo repair shop, as they have a better understanding of the complete car and systems.
