Volvo: 2001 Volvo S40, volvo s40, sway bar

Question
I am looking at purchasing a 2000 Volvo S40 - it has 116,000 miles, needs a timing belt and sway bar.  The owner has kept up with all required maintenance and its going for $2500.  To replace the timing belt and sway bar is between $700-$1300.  The cosmetics of the car is in excellent condition and I would like to purchase, but I am being told that is not a good buy.  What do you think?

Answer
Denise,
The S40 is the low line Volvo and the price of the car and the needed repairs are really more than the cars value. If you really love the car and the money is not an issue that might be a deal for you. Look to see what else you could get with the money and see if you are comfortable with the money spent.
