Volvo: Volvo V70 2.5Turbo R-reg, volvo v70, intermittent fault

The vehicle is automatic and has an intermittent fault with the shift lever sensor (I think) when in Park or Drive  and the starter does not engage. this happens when hot or cold and no particular action makes it happen or stops it happening. Any ideas?

The gear position sensor maybe out of adjustment or just worn out. You need to scan the trans monitor the gear position sensor to see how well it works. Read codes in the system you may have a posted code for GPS. Gear position sensor have a high failure rate.
