Volvo: 94 volvo 850, volvo 850, idler pulleys

Question
QUESTION: can you replace a volvo 850 engine with the same non turbo my cars motor just died so im trying to find out whats the best option to buy a new engine or cut my losses. please help

ANSWER: Justin,
You need the same engine that came out of your car. There are emission issues and sensors along with control units that need the correct readings to make the engine run. Your question is a bit unclear as to what engine is in your car.

QUESTION: the engine had alot of miles on it. is it worth getting another one? and keeping the car I dont know anything about cars so itd be pricey to fix but maybe i could find a cheap motor?  the size of the engine 2.4 L I5, 168 hp (125 kW) @ 6300 rpm and 162 ft·lbf (220 N·m) @ 4500 rpm any suggestions?

ANSWER: Justin,
Since you know the car and all it's "ins and outs" the engine swap would be a good idea, unless the cost is too high. That cost could go for a newer car with possibility some warranty on it. So weighing out the costs and then finding an engine with what you would call low miles fits the picture, that is a deal. Now where are you going to find an engine? Are you looking for remanufactured or used? Used will be hard to find with low miles. New might be more cost than the car is worth.

QUESTION: my car is has a 2.4 L engine non turubo with the pump i bought an engine for 150 from a 96 with 130K miles and the uy says he is going to charge me 4-5 to put it in anyways. my last engine had a oil leak if its the seal than will i need to buy another seal?

Answer
Justin,
Replace the seals as needed ie rear main front cam and crank shaft along with the oil pump. Easier to replace the seals with the engine out. I would consider the timing belt and water pump also along with the tensioner and idler pulleys mounts etc.
