Volvo: 99 C70 Conv..., windshield frame, micro switches

Question
Mr Niemi... We have a 99 C70 Conv. that is having a top glitch. The two arms that retract from the windshield will not re-engage forward while trying to put the top up. From what I can tell these ares lock the top to the A pillar, as well as "starting" the first fold in the top. Since they will not return to the forward position, the last panel will not lay flat to the windshield frame (had to do it manually). I noticed two micro switches in the top on the passenger side (over the door) that tell the motors when the top reaches full cycle. Could one of these switches be bad, or maybe another somewhere else? Again, seems to be retracting fine, just will not fully cycle up. Thank you in advance... Hope that description makes sense...

Answer
John,
The top had quite a few micro switches and yes I would say that one of the forward ones is more that likely defective. There have been a lot of issues with the switches. You might want to take the car to the dealer to have it tested. They can plug the scan tool in and take some readings and make the proper adjustments. It seems the top was made more complex than it needed to be, and the micro switches fail way too often.
