Volvo: Volvo 740 Stall, volvo 740 gle, volvo 740

Question
Hi, I just bought a 1986 Volvo 740 GLE in late May and it's ran ok. I just had it in the shop for the control module went out 2 times. I just got it back and I've noticed that when going on the interstate, it sputtered a few times before hitting 75. Later on, on occasion, the motor stalls even in park or neutral. Now the motor doesn't die it just sputters, but if I'm gentle, i can get up to speed but a little slower than i want. It sounds fine if I'm gentle but if I try to give it more it sputters. I heard it might be the battery, i think it's the spark plugs and wires. It sounds like the car is not getting spark to all the plugs. I was just a little curious about why this is happening.
Thanks for your consideration,
Fil.

Answer
Filip,
If the cap rotor and wires are old then replace them. Then drive and see if the problem is gone. If you do not know what has been done to the car then going over it and doing all the regular tune ups and fluid changes, belts, hoses, filters, throttle housing cleaning, possibly an injection cleaning would be a good idea. If the car still acts up you will need the help of a tech to drive the car make some tests and get you back on the road. But I do agree that the spark could be the whole issue, and a good tune up would fix that.
