Volvo: 92 volvo 240 stalls, vacuum leak, fuel pumps

Question
I have a 92 240 that will stall sometimes 2 or 3 times in an 1hr to an hr and half in between shopping at different stores. Also I get an engine light sometimes and sometimes it will go off on its own and when I pull up the code I always get code number (144),which can also help on the control unit if it could be bad. Fuel pumps replaced, relay replaced, fuel filter replaced, checked pressure regulator, fuses checked, but when I unplugged the air mass meter it stalled instead of surge and before I spend another penny on this car I want your opinon before i buy it.I know they say when you plug it in if it stalls but with me mine stalls unplugging it so i know you and many others(LOL) are saying duh what do think yeah replace it but I want to make sure what else besides the connector and continuity checks to check because you know this part is quite expensive so I'd appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks many,Will

Answer
Will,
Looks like you have replaced all the things that cause stalling in the way of a failed part. Now have you also checked and made sure the throttle housing is clean? Could there be a vacuum leak around the intake manifold? When it stalls is there still power to the fuel pumps and correct pressure?  Now the code you get indicates "load signal absent or faulty". Are all the wires good in the MAF connector? If and when you satisfy the above, I would try a known good MAF if possible, or just buy a used or rebuilt MAF.
