Volvo: 2001 S40 Stalling in Morning, fuel leaks, vacuum hose

Question
Ray,

I have a 2001 S40 (115,000 miles) and every morning I try to start the car by just turning the key, nothing happens, then I give it a little gas and it starts right up but when I take my foot off the gas it stalls out. Sometimes it stays running and everything is fine that day the car runs great but then the next day it doesn't start. There is no consistence to when it will start or not start. Sometimes the cars has to set a few days before it will start.

Any thoughts???

Answer
Ron,
What I would do is check the fuel pressure and see if the fuel pressure regultor is possible leaking. Might be able to pull the vacuum hose off and see if fuel leaks out. If that check out see if there are any fault codes stored and if so fix those problems.

Line Pressure At Injectors    43.5 +/- 1.5 psi

Pump Pressure    At 12.5 Volts Max    116.0 psi
At 12.5 Volts Min    70.0 psi
Line Pressure Regulator (On Fuel Pump)    58.0 - 72.5 psi
