Volvo: 1995 Volvo 850 wont start, jumper cables, volvo 850

Question
My battery got low today, so one of my friends was trying to help me get it jumped, but something went wrong.  Before the attempted jump, I had dash lights and gauges in accessory mode-- and the engine made cranking noises like it didn't have enough battery juice.  After the attempted jump, I had no lights, gauges, windows, or anything. I checked ALL the fuses in the box and found 2 bad fuses that gave me back windows and radio.  Then I found someone who had heavier duty set of jumper cables and we were able to get the car to the point where it sounds like it is going to crank, but it won't actually "catch."  I have gas, power (except to the dash lights and gauges), and windows.  I don't know what blew to affect my gauges and lights... can you help? Thanks!

Answer
Esther,
Your car need someone to inspect it to see what is missing. Perhaps one of the small wire off the positive cable broke or is not making a good connection. Before you continue to try starting the car and have something go wrong have the car taken to a shop that knows the Volvo so they can look at it. Hooking up the cables backward or having a battery that is shorted out has the potential for some serious damage. Hopefully there is not any serious damage already done.
