Volvo: 2002 Volvo S40, diesel truck, volvo s40

Question
Although the issues with my S40 don't seem terrible, I thought this would be
the venue to ask. Lately it's been really loud- my friend pointed out that it
sounded like her dad's diesel truck- especially when idling. It shakes from
time to time, which isn't noticeable to passengers but the steering wheel and
my seat vibrate and my information panel and window controls rattle, with
increased intensity while stopping. I've recently had my tires rotated and
balanced and my alignment checked. Any ideas?

Answer
Caroline,
If this is going on while stepping on the brake then I would advise to have the brakes checked. If the front rotors are warped and out of round then there is a chance the vibration is from the rotors, vibrating through the car and steering wheel. Also motor mounts that are weak will allow vibration to be felt in the vehicle body, at stops just idling. That being the case you may have two different problems. Get to a shop that knows the Volvo and show them the problem(s).
