Volvo: SC-811 error message, glt, error message

My '95 GLT has a SC-811 w/ changer in rear, when you try to listen to a CD the error message "E-01" comes up. What does this mean and how can I fix it?

It can not read the CD, so there is a fault code. Try to remove and reload the cassette. If it is stuck use a credit card under the cassette to aid in the removal. Load one CD and try it. If the unit fails to operate it will require a replacement.
