Volvo: volvo will not move forward or backward, stick shift, automatics

I have a 1988 Volvo that will turn over but when you shift it apears to find the gear but does not move.  I'm not sure where to begin to look to resolve the problem. It was running fine and than just stopped.

If you have a stick shift it could be the clutch slipping. The automatics also go out so they just will not move. All you can do is have it towed to a Volvo shop so they can inspect it and find the problem. Might even be as simple as the linkage under the car has fallen off. So it must be looked at to determine what went wrong.
