Volvo: 98 Volvo V70 XC, volvo v70 xc, volvo v70

Question
Just bought this used.  Step up from the 77 V70 I had. Love it, but still trying to find out all the buttons, whistles, etc.  Have a couple of questions....
1. I noticed the cruise control light does not illuminate in dash when on, why?
2. I seem to have some sort of towing device attached in the back.  What is this and can I tow something with this car?
3. I can not seem to find any information on the three modes (located at the based of the gear shift (automatic).  What does the S, E and W (presuming this is winter) mean and should I utilize these?
4. There seemed to be an additional storage devise on driver's side back, but missing now.  Is this true or was it something I should have purchased as an accessory?
5. I thought this model came with the child buster seat installed.  Does not seem to be in the car.  Was this an accessory too?
6. I have not had an all wheel drive before.  Should I still utilize the winter driving mode?  I live in Maine and roads can be tricky in winter.
7. When I am switching the info knob and I reach the temp, the screen shows a DISC message.  But, I do not have the CD changer as the EEEE message comes up when I press the CHGR button.  WHat does this mean?
8. I can not get the courtesy lights to work when I have parked the car.  The manual says to park, take out key and then press as if wanting the high beam flash; it should leave the lights on for 30 seconds, but doesn't.  Is this accurate for this model?
9. Lastly, sorry, the lights in the cabin do not turn on when the door is open, if the keys are still in the ignition (even thought engine is off and in park).  Why?

Thanks.

Answer
E. Lucia,
You need to contact a dealer for an Owners Manual.
I don't think the 98's used the light for cruise.
If you mean a tow hitch, then you may tow. See if there is sticker showing proper weight for towing. The owners book lists a weight amount for safe towing.
Sport mode Econmey, Winter. Try the S and E see if you feel a difference, most do not.
Not sure about your storage device. Is it a pocket that is torn off the seat back?
Look at the rear arm rest it could be the child seat.
Winter mode allow the car to start out in a higher gear to prevent the wheels from spinning. Take a ride and try it.
Temp screen DISC would indicate the sending unit for temp is not working. EEEE means no CD player so the radio can not contact it, no communication.
I never seen the courtesy light option you have described.
Light has a switching problem possibly in the left front door, or light module is defective.
