Volvo: Volvo V70 2000 2.0 Petrol Auto, volvo v70, electronic throttle

Question
Hi Ray. My Volvo V70 is behaving peculiar when is stopped at traffic lights or simply being idle. The rev counter seems to be reving up and down slightly, above and below 1000 revs and the engine is making a funny noise, as if its losing power, but its not and it only happens when the car is in idle mode. It has recently been serviced and cam belt has been changed. What could be the matter?

Answer
William,
When the belt was put on the VVT (variable valve timig) may not have been set properly, meaning the timing is a bit off. Have the shop look into their manuals to be sure that they followed the procedure to replace the timing belt. If that all checks out there maybe a problem with the electronic throttle system that will require a download of new software. I would guess that there is a fault code posted, so also check for fault codes that will leed to the problem.
