Volvo: Volvo 850 brakes, squealing brakes, ear muffs

Question
Hi. I have a 1996 850 T5 estate which has squealing brakes. I have replaced the front discs and pads and have also replaced the rear pads but not discs. I brushed out the brake dust and used copper grease on the back of the pads but they still squeak under braking. apart from a set of ear muffs what do you suggest. Thanks.  Bernie

Answer
Bernie,
I have always used the Volvo pads and rotors, using the paste on the rear of the pad and some stop squeal on the pad surface itself. That has given me the best results for a brake job that has no squeal.
If only the rear make noise two things there is a special set of shims to use and new brake hardware using an updated spring. Make sure the rotor does not make contact with the anti rattle spring.
